the one about out 10 year anniversary

Can you believe it? Today is our 10 year Anniversary. We were married on September 19, 1998. It's so crazy to think that I have been married for that long! We were babies when we got married and sometimes I wonder what in the HELL we were thinking... but you know... I wouldn't change it for anything. Contrary to popular believe, Brett is such a great guy. He takes care of me, he respects me and he loves me. Most people don't get to see the REAL Brett. So I am going to list 10 things about him that might surprise you.

#1 He is one of the funniest and silliest people I have ever met. Although, he likes people to think he is all business.
#2 He pulls the most HIDEOUS faces at me sometimes just to make me laugh.
#3 You can't argue with him, not only because he is "always right," but because he is such a dork! I try to get mad at him and he does anything he can to turn it around. He either pulls the stupid faces or says something annoying. He looks at me, shrugs his shoulders and in a little-kid-with-a-lisp voice, says, "Sorry."
#4 He is quite sensitive. Not in a "sweet & romantic" kind of way, but in a "Put up a wall and don't let anybody in" kind of way. I am just so glad that I am the one that gets to be on the inside of that wall.
#5 He is CRAZY smart. Seriously. It's kind of annoying, actually.
#6 He couldn't win a race if he had too. He used to enjoy running, but he is really slow. It's weird. It's like his legs don't move or something.
#7 He is probably the best dad on the planet. He is so cute with Quayd and Quayd is SO lucky to have him all to himself!
#8 He is HORRIFIED of birds. He just freaks out when he sees them. He thinks they will peck his eyes out.
#9 If I can ever get him to do it, he gives the BEST back rubs/tickles/scratches. He won't do it much though because I never do it back. I HATE to scratch backs, and he is SO ticklish that if I "brush" his skin in a certain way, he squirms and giggles like a little girl. It makes me crazy so I don't do it much. Therefore, he doesn't get to return the favor.
#10 He rarely moves or rolls over in his sleep. He gets in the same position every night and doesn't move.

#10 is the one I am missing right now, because Brett is out of town and won't be back until Sunday. He left LAST THURSDAY! So I haven't got to have him next to me at night. And it sucks. He went to The National Fire Academy in Washington D.C. (He is taking lots of pictures so I can blog about it soon. Then I will give more details.) We have known for some time that he would be gone on our anniversary, and although I was prepared, I have been sitting here kind of sad all evening. Quayd played with Brennen and ate dinner over there. I was just going to have cereal, but I decided to walk over to my brothers and see if they had any leftovers. They did. So I ate cold Taco's by myself. Isn't that pitiful? I planned on going to sleep early, but I got really lonesome and couldn't sleep. What a crappy anniversary. Oh well. We will make up for it when he gets home. He owes me a BIG FAT DATE!!!!! I am not one of those wives who freaks out when the hubby is away. I miss him, but I am glad he got to go to the school. It is actually a big honor to go and I am really proud of him. I have been fine having him gone, but 10 nights is a long time. My bed is not empty though. It is full of a bed hogging, squirming, kicking, tossing & turning, 6 year old little bear. :) Quayd is a fun bed partner, but I sure miss my big, scruffy, non moving husband.

I love you so much Bretty!! Thanks for putting up with me for all of these years. You are the best and I will love you forever. Come home SOOOOOOOOOOOOON!!!! Happy 10 Year Anniversary!

the tag about me and Brett

Cute little Lindsay tagged me. I love her. She is just too sweet. I had a similar tag several months ago, but I decided to do it again, just for fun. We are coming up on our 10 year anniversary and I thought it would be fun to refresh!

How did we meet: Brett and I had known each other for lots of years because we grew up in the same town and went to school together. He is actually a year younger than me so I knew his brother Brandon better because we are the same age. But we became friends the summer before my senior year of high school, and started dating that fall.

Where did you go on your first date: That tough because when you are 16 and 17 you are just together all the time, right? We went to school dances and movies and stuff and we have pretty much been inseparable since then. I don't really know what is a date and what isn't!

How long have you been together? 12 years since we started dating; 10 years of marriage next month. And through the whole thing.... we never broke up, split up, left the other one... Nothing. We have been an "item" since the summer of 1996

Who said ‘I love you’ first? I can't really remember, but I think it was me. I asked Brett though, and he thinks it was him. I hate to admit it, but I was SO into him, and I was probably a little desperate... so I am sure it was me. Like Lindsay, I felt like I needed to claim him.

Who is taller: Brett, lots! He is 6'1" I am only 5'5"

Who sings better: Oh Brett, for sure. I can't carry a tune in a bucket but Brett comes from a very musically talented family.

Who is smarter: Brett. Don't you know? He knows EVERYTHING!!!!

Who does the laundry: Me. Not very efficiently, but I try.

Who does the dishes: Me. Thank goodness for the dishwasher.

Who sleeps on the right side of the bed: Laying in bed, Brett is on my right side.

Who pays the bills: Both of us. We try to do it together, anyway.

Who mows the lawn: We both take turns at it. We both sort of enjoy it. If Brett is mowing, I usually go outside with him and move stuff as he mows and vice-versa.

Who cooks dinner: Me. I love to cook. Brett can cook, and he is pretty good at it, but I love doing the wife-ey thing and having it ready when he comes home.

Who drives when you are together: Brett always drives long distances. If we are just running around town in my car, then I usually drive. I hate to drive and Brett hates the way I drive.

Who is more stubborn: 100%, no doubt about it, BRETT!

Who kissed who first: He put the move on me!!! But don't worry, I kissed right back!

Who is more sensitive: ME! TOTALLY. I can count on one hand the number of times Brett has cried since we have been together. I can't count on 10 hands how many times I have cried this week!!!!

Who proposed: Brett. I knew it was coming though, and I was in a crappy mood when he did it. When I saw him get on one knee, I was like, "NO!!!! Not now! Not here! It has to be PERFECT!!!!" But he did it anyway. And no offense to Brett, it wasn't very magical. I totally ruined the moment.

Who has more siblings: Brett. He has 2 brothers and a sister. I only have one brother.

Who wears the pants: I let Brett think he wears the pants. But, shhhhhhh. Don't tell him. It is actually me who wears them.

I want to tag Cara, Tara, Shae and Rachel. And anyone else who might be interested!

the "tag" about me and my bretty

I was tagged by Jamie and I thought this was a pretty cute tag. On days when I want to ring Brett's neck, I can look back at this and remember that I really do love him. :)

I do need to tell this little story, though.... When Brett and I started dating, I noticed that his Aunt Debbie called him "Bretty." I called him Bretty once and I thought he might just flip a gasket! He said, "Nobody, and I mean NOBODY calls me Bretty besides my Aunt Debbie!" I was like, "SORRY!!" Then a few years into our marriage, our dear sweet friend Heather (who was in Jr. High School at the time)started calling him Bretty and he let her get away with it becasue she is just to cute and sweet to argue with! But now I can get away with it occasionally. And like I said in my last post, he doesn't read my blog anyway, so he will never know!

And here is another little side note.. I have to admit my mistake. When I made my cute banner for this blog, I made a goof and put "est. 1997." That is not true. We were really est. 1998. I dont know what I was thinking, and I didn't notice it for a few days after I made it and posted it. And I didn't know how to edit it. OOPS! Don't tell Brett! Remember, he doesn't read this!

OK, now finally on to the tag....

How long have you been together? almost 12 years since we started dating; 9 1/2 years married. And through the whole thing.... we never broke up, split up, left the other one... Nothing. We have been an "item" since the summer of 1996

How long did you date? 2 years. (Probably would have been less, but I had to wait for him to graduate!)

How old is he? He will be 28 in less than 3 weeks!!!! (April 28th)

Who said ‘I love you’ first? I can't really remember, but I think it was me. I just asked Brett though, and he thinks it was him. I hate to admit it, but I was SO into him, and I was probably a little desperate... so I am sure it was me.

Who is taller? Brett

Who is smarter? SOOOOOOOOO Brett!!! I am an idiot, and he knows EVERYTHING!

Who does the laundry? of course, Me

Who does the dishes? of course, Me, again

Who sleeps on the right side of the bed? Bretty

Who pays the bills? Neither of us. Who would want to do something silly like that?

Who mows the lawn? My cute little Grandpa. (I know... it's pathetic and a little embarassing on my part, but he is a little OCD about it! I try to help him a little though.)

Who cooks dinner? Yours truly!

Who is more stubborn? Ummmm, have you met Brett? He is SO STINKING STUBBORN!

Who kissed who first? He put the move on me!!! But don't worry, I kissed right back!

Who asked who out? I don't know.... It was just kind of assumed that we were an item. We were 16 and 17. We were "going out."

Who proposed? Bretty

Who is more sensitive? ME! TOTALLY. I can count on one hand the number of times Brett has cried since we have been together. I can't count on 10 hands how many times I have cried this week!!!!

Ahhhhh, that was kinda fun. I guess I will tag.....

the one about my love story

So many topics to write about... where shall I begin. I think I'll tell you about how I met my husband. yah. That sounds good.

We go way back. Brett and I met like a million years age when I was in 6th grade. (Ok, like 17 years ago. No way. Really? 17? Let me double check my math. Holy freaking crap. I am old enought to remember 17 years ago!!! I can even remember 20 and 25 years ago. That sounds so old! Funny story about remembering things that are old... When we moved into our house 3 years ago, we had to repaint the whole interior. It is my great-Grandma Karrens house and she is now in the care center. My gandparents live next door and my sweet, wonderful, handy and very frugal grandpa was just floored that we actually planned on painting all of it. ((trust me, it was awful and really needed it!)) So he says to me, "Well I just painted the whole interior a few years ago. Let me think... It was the year we moved down here from Maeser." Yah, Grandpa. My mom was in Jr. High when you moved down here from Maeser! What a goof. Ok, you just witnessed my ADD. that was quite a little tangent I went off on there. Back to my story.) So I met Brett when I was staying with my dad for a weekend and he was doing some house calls. He was a T.V. repairman. The Lane's had a big screen t.v. and it was having some issues. I went with dad and just hung out while he worked on the set. There were these two obnoxious, roudy boys running around and I recognized one of them from school. It was Brandon Lane and the other one must have been his little brother. I think I had art or something with Brandon. Well, nothing monumental happened or anything, I just remeber that. So as I got a little older, I got to know both of the Lane boys, who were total jerks, by the way. In High School, I was involved with the plays and musicals, and so was Brett. Again, total jerk. When I was a junior, I was on the yearbook staff and we were recruiting for the next year staff. Everyone wanted Brett Lane because he was so funny, and witty and cool. Whatever. JERK! When my Senoir year began, I got to know Brett, a junior, better and just realized what a fun and cool guy he really was. He was dating one of my friends, and we ended up double dating to Sadies. Well they eventually broke up, so I made my move. Here is the scandalous story. I was going to the Homecoming Dance with my crush, Cody Olsen and Brett had asked my friend Arielle. Brett and I started hanging out tons during Homecoming week while we were in charge of the Yearbook Homecoming float, which was being constructed at my house. Well, one night, we were just chilling at my house and we ended up kissing on my couch. Cool. Then the next day, some more. And more. Well we totally developed feelings for each other and decided we wanted to "be an item." So as the Homecoming dance neared, we really wanted to go together, but already had dates. Well, we were all in the same friend circle, so we just asked our dates if they would like to switch dates. Being flaky High School kids, we all agreed. So we switched. We thought all was well, but it ended up pissing off the dates and they spread all kinds of rumors about us the night of the dance. They told the whole school that we had S-E-X! But we didn't. That was the night of another school dance! ;) After Homecoming, we ended up going to Brett's house and hanging out with his parents. We talked and hung out for HOURS! It was so much fun. That was the beginning of many double dates with my in-law's!

So, I had to wait for Brett to graduate before we would get married. and a few months after his graduation, WE DID! September 19, 1998.
9 years ago. We lived in a cute little apartment for just over a year, then bought a house in a great neighborhood. We started going to Church and were sealed in the Vernal Temple July 22, 2000. Then 2 years after that, on August 30, 2002, we were blessed with our awesome son, Quayd. Shortly after that, we moved into a little house near Brett's parents. It was a strange time for us. We were mad at the world for the trial that we had experienced when we had our son (long story), so we rebelled a little and quit going to Church, but shortly after that, we went right back. Then in July 2004, we moved into the house we are in now. My great-grandparents house. And we love it. We are very blessed and we have a great marriage. (This was taken June 2007) And that is the beginning of my love story. TO BE CONTINUED...
